Parish Council And Planning

Perranuthnoe does not seem to have a representative on the parish council anymore so anyone interested in any planning notices is advised to visit St Clare.

Apparently one of the current plans is to knock down 4 Greeb Way and rebuild.

This will be for the foreseeable future as the next parish council elections due in 2011, have been postponed until 2013, to take in to account changes within Cornwall Council. That means that nearly a third of our current parish councillors are in place, unelected, for at least two and half years. Our present parish council seems to have made little attempt to make public who the new councillors are where as most other parish councils at least put a notice in the local papers stating who have been elected or seconded.

What with parish councils likely to be getting new powers under the governments ' big society' including massive changes to how planning permissions are granted, this village will have no proper say in what happens so it is up to all of us to try and keep an eye on things and if necessary make our voice heard and our opinions count.

Warning - Check You Receipts - Cash Back Scam

It has come to my attention that there is a very nasty scam going around. Apparetnly cashiers are adding cash back to purchases that people have not asked for. They then give the cash back to a friend who is in the queue behind you!

The scam involves amounts from £20 - £40 but I guess it can involve any amount, depending on what the cashiers feels he/she can get away with. So far Sainsburys have had the most incidents of this as they are one of the largest retailers but it is certainly not limited to them. This scam can be done anywhere at any store when paying by debit or credit card so please, please check your reciepts!

Stay safe everyone.

Updated - Perranuthnoe Oil Group

Please see comment below if you ARE or WANT to be in this group

I have recieved an email today which I think you should all be aware of:

I was a little concerned at the size of my oil bill after the recent delivery from Watsons (Perranuthnoe group) so I rang round various oil companies for an on-the-spot price. I'm sorry to report that, even with the group discount, Watsons were six pence per litre more expensive than the best price (Semmens)I have now withdrawn from the group and am left wondering how much less I could have paid over the last couple of years!

Best check your prices everyone!

Rare Breed Heifers

Just to let everyone know I now have 2 rare breed heifers by the name of Daisy and Buttercup. They are Whitebred Shorthorns of which there are only 250 registered cows in the world. They are a small dual purpose cow - good for beef and milking. They came down from the Scottish boarders on Monday (thats where most of them can be found). When they are old enough I will breed them with a bull of that breed at Pendeen where 6 other cows are grazing the moors. They are housed in one of my fields at present but if anyone would like to see them - just give me a phone 711875 Karen

Lovely Day For A Wedding

Local couple Sarah & Tim love Perranuthnoe so much that they chose to hold their wedding here. The ceremony took place in St. Piran & St. Michael's Church and the reception was held in the garden of the Cabin overlooking Perran bay. At one point the wedding party moved down to the beach, some took a swim while others chatted. It finished with some of the party walking the coastal path back to Prussia Cove. As Tim is a member of a band called Pondlife many guests bought their instruments, as the sun shone the musicians played.

Congratulations Sarah & Tim

Updated - Bomb Disposal On Perran Beach

There was some excitement on the beach today as a bomb disposal team set off a small explosion.
Apparently there were some items that needed disposing of and our beach has good sand for the job!

The Bomb Disposal Team

Beach goers watch on as team prepare
Police move people back to safe area

The fuse is laid
The explosion!

Update: Apparently the item was a grenade which was found at David Lays auction house in a box from a house clearance.  They called the police who called the Navy who came down and blew it up on the beach.

Updated - Dispute Over Land Access

Disputes over access to land are far from uncommon, in fact there is one going on right now, right under our noses.

As you walk down the lane at Trenow if you look to the right you will see the area where two farmers are in dispute over access.

Updated

Farmer 'A' rented the fields from farmer 'C' who reportedly made a gap in the hedge and put up a gate to gain access to the fields beyond. Farmer 'A' intends to graze cattle in the fields.

Farmer 'B' responded by taking down the gate and dumping a load of earth in its place, preventing access to the fields.

Farmer 'A' believes they are perfectly entitled to access due to a track being marked on an old Ordnance Survey map (1910). This is not the same map as the one in a post earlier this year relating to Trenow Quarry Footpath.

Farmer 'B' believes there is not, and never has been a track which would allow access to the fields.

Things like this are upsetting for all concerned, it seems a shame that some sort of arrangement could not have been made before things went this far.

Meanwhile the cow and her calf, having been purchased by farmer 'A' are left to chew the cud in their paddock until something is sorted.

The matter is in the hands of solicitors.

NB - Neither farmer 'A', 'B' or 'C' asked for this report in an effort to rally support.
Farmers 'A' and 'B' are currently in negotiations.
